The main objectives of the centre
are :
- to provide for various courses of study, training and research in different branches of Archaeology, History of Art, Museology, Primitive Art, Archival Studies and Conservation of Cultural property and the like;
- to provide and offer facilities for fundamental research in Art, Museology, Archaeology, Primitive Art, Archival Studies and Conservation of Cultural properties and the like;
- to establish norms for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge on the aesthetic and scientific aspects of research on the cultural heritage of human kind;
- to provide and offer facilities for integrated training for teachers, demonstrators and technicians engaged in teaching theoritical and practical courses in primitive, ancient medieval and modern art, both oriental and occidental, numismatics crafts, epigraphy, archaeology, theoretical and practical museology, archival studies and conservation of antiquarian remains.
- to collaborate with the Universities, Government Departments of Archaeology, Archives, Museums and other autonomous institutions under the Government and also with voluntary organisations in order to have access to cultural property of all kinds, curatorial expertise and teaching staff and faculties of the laborataries, libraries, workshps, buildings and other facilities.
- to offer its know-how and facilities to Universities and other academic institutions in this field;
- to interact on a continuing basis at the national level to improve standards of teaching Art history, Archaeology, Conservation, Museology, Archival studies and the like; to give academic guidance and provide leadership, as and when required, and to ensure that the resources of government and non-government organizations both national and international and other such institutions are also made available for them;
- to publish such works of the centre as may have contributed substantially to the fields if specialisation;
- to visualise, plan and prepare educational kits and software for audio-visual education in art and culture for all levels of teaching; and
- to do all such other lawfull acts and this as may be necessary for or conducive to further in the objectives of setting of the Institute as a centre of study and research.
